Montesquiou: XXV
ca.1905
Very nice proof with its large margins, imperceptible scuff on the model's shoulder, tiny indentation of the paper in the right border.
Marthe Fourton (1878-1954), who became Ms. Letellier through her marriage, was one of the artist's favorite models, sensitive to the beauty of the young woman, very aware of her strengths. The daughter of the artist relates, moreover, in: HELLEU AND ITS MODELS, that a drawing representing her, the naked bust, was reproduced, without her father's knowledge in a newspaper, with the sole title: "Portrait of Madame X ... ”. Meeting Paul Helleu, Mrs Letellier, dissatisfied, would have made him this reproach contrary to that which he could have feared: "When the subject is so beautiful, we indicate the name!".
