Large lithograph probably executed to serve as a poster for the famous Rothomago show.
Rothomago is a fairyland with a grand spectacle in five acts and twenty-five tableaux to music by Adolphe De Groot and a libretto by Adolphe d'Ennery, Clairville and Albert Monnier, first performed in Paris on January 1, 1862 at the Théâtre Impérial du Circus. Rothomago, son of the famous wizard of that name, owns a talisman (a watch given to him by the Hours to the power of which he is subject) by means of which he accomplishes his four wills, endlessly upsetting the created universe to satisfy its innumerable fantasies.
