The artist had a passion for Kyoto and botany, so it was quite natural that the idea for a series of prints entitled: Kyoto Seasonal Flower Calendar, came to him. As is often the case, he likes to place an insect or small animal in the middle of his landscapes; here it is a bird on the branch of the plum tree on the left.
Masao Ido was a renowned contemporary printmaker, renowned for his serene and timeless depictions of Japanese landscapes, particularly Kyoto. Born in northeastern China and later settled in Japan, he studied under Yoshida Koho and mastered the traditional technique of woodblock printing.
His works combine traditional aesthetics with a modern sensibility, characterized by rich textures, harmonious colors, and an ability to convey serenity and depth.
