SEPTIÈME PLAN DE LA VILLE DE PARIS
DE LA MARE NICOLAS (1639-1723)In 1667, Lamoignon, first president of the Parliament of Paris, suggested to Nicolas de La Mare to write a work methodically exposing the police methods applicable in a big city. La Reynie opened all the archives he needed to write it, and Étienne Baluze gave him access to Colbert's rich library. The first volume of the Police Treaty appeared in 17073, Volume 2 in 1710, Volume 3 in 17194. In 1722 the second volume was expanded by an appendix5 on meat (pigs, lambs, kids, suckling pigs) . Aging, he received the help of Lecler du Brillet, King's Attorney at the Admiralty, to write the fourth and final volume, posthumously published in 1738..

He is considered the father of modern bridge construction. In 1747, Perronet was appointed director of the Bureau des Dessinateurs du Roi (King's Draftsmen's Office). At this first École des Ponts et Chaussées (School of Bridges and Roads), Perronet was responsible for training bridge and road engineers and supervising their work in the regions where they practiced. The office was renamed the École des Ponts et Chaussées (School of Bridges and Roads) in 1775. An organizer, inspirer, and teacher, Perronet was a true spiritual father to his students and used a new teaching method.
