Gerlinde Beck studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Karl Hils, Peter Otto Heim, Gerhard Gollwitzer and Willi Baumeister and also completed an apprenticeship in sheet metal.
Beck made a name for herself through numerous state orders. Her work was widely exhibited and can still be seen in various museums.

She became known to a wide audience with the "Sound Street" created between 1973 and 1984, a series of twelve individual sculptures made of different materials producing sounds.

The artist invents the term spatial choreography to describe his sculptures and installations integrated into space. Gerlinde Beck was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund and GEDOK.

In 1996 she founded the Gerlinde Beck Foundation to promote young artists in particular.
