This assassination attempt, also known as the "Conspiracy of the Infernal Machine," took place on 3 Nivôse, Year IX (December 24, 1800), the result of a royalist conspiracy that sought to assassinate Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul since the coup of 18 Brumaire in Paris on November 9, 1799. This failed attempt occurred shortly after the Conspiracy of the Daggers of 18 Vendémiaire, Year IX (October 10, 1800).
