Sosaku-hanga

Nishiki-e
Kunio Kaneko is a Sosaku-hanga artist born in Tokyo in 1949. A graduate of Mushino Fine Arts University in 1972, he studied with artists Joichi Hoshi and Sasajima Kihei.
His works draw inspiration from both classic Japanese motifs, such as koi carp and Mount Fuji, and everyday objects.
His prints are all handmade using the traditional Japanese Baren technique. He has mastered a highly sophisticated technique of adding gold and silver leaf, which gives his works a unique depth and brilliance.
He primarily works on small formats, which are highly prized for decorating interiors, often small in size in Japan.
Kunio Kaneko's goal is to create a "Neo-Japanese art," an art deeply rooted in Japanese tradition while remaining open to universal perspectives.
He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, France, and the United States.
