"A. HERLIN? (1815-1900), genre painter, Lille. Drawings.
This signature, taken from drawings from the 17th and 18th centuries, is attributed by some to the painter Auguste Herlin, from Lille, who was curator of the paintings section of the Wicar museum in 1879, honorary curator in 1892 and on whom a biographical note by L. Quarré-Reybourbon appeared in Réunion des Sociétés des Beaux-Arts des Départements, 1906, pp. 320-333. However, the paraph reproduced is different from that, in Herlin's hand, which appears on letters or drawings kept in his family: his paintings are also signed differently."
