Maria Cosway, born June 11, 1760 in Florence and died January 5, 1838 in Lodi, is an Italian-British painter and printmaker. She exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. In 1781, Maria Hadfield married Richard Cosway, a known miniaturist. Together, they work and bring together a famous art collection, La collezione Maria e Richard Cosway. In 1812, Maria Cosway founded a college for English girls in Florence; in 1830 it became the Istituto delle Dame inglesi. She then set up her institution in northern Italy, in Lodi.
